On a class of locally projectively flat Finsler metrics
In this paper we study Finsler metrics with orthogonal invariance. We find a partial differential equation equivalent to these metrics being locally projectively flat. Some applications are given. In particular, we give an explicit construction of a new locally projectively flat Finsler metric of vanishing flag curvature which differs from the Finsler metric given by Berwald in 1929.
متن کاملLocally conformal flat Riemannian manifolds with constant principal Ricci curvatures and locally conformal flat C-spaces
It is proved that every locally conformal flat Riemannian manifold all of whose Jacobi operators have constant eigenvalues along every geodesic is with constant principal Ricci curvatures. A local classification (up to an isometry) of locally conformal flat Riemannian manifold with constant Ricci eigenvalues is given in dimensions 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. It is shown that any n-dimensional (4 ≤ n ≤ 8)...
متن کاملGroups of locally-flat disk knots and non-locally-flat sphere knots
The classical knot groups are the fundamental groups of the complements of smooth or piecewise-linear (PL) locally-flat knots. For PL knots that are not locally-flat, there is a pair of interesting groups to study: the fundamental group of the knot complement and that of the complement of the “boundary knot” that occurs around the singular set, the set of points at which the embedding is not lo...
متن کاملFlat Zipper-Unfolding Pairs for Platonic Solids
We show that four of the five Platonic solids’ surfaces may be cut open with a Hamiltonian path along edges and unfolded to a polygonal net each of which can “zipper-refold” to a flat doubly covered parallelogram, forming a rather compact representation of the surface. Thus these regular polyhedra have particular flat “zipper pairs.” No such zipper pair exists for a dodecahedron, whose Hamilton...
